About Us

Danza Monarcas began in 2018 by Carlos Alaniz and a few folklórico friends. Huddled together in a Seattle apartment lobby, they modified the movements, costuming, and stories of familiar dances to better reflect the people they had become.

We have grown in size, scope, and expression over the years, but our vision remains the same – to reimagine folklórico traditions with and for our LGBTQIA2+ community.
